I juice when fasting

If you have taken to fasting for whatever reason, can you drink juice during the process? There are several different intermittent fasting methods, all of which split the day or week into eating periods and fasting periods.

I drink vegetable juice and vegetable broth during your fasting period. What you want to refrain from is consuming any food or beverages that contain calories.

No matter which you choose, there is still a need to keep your body active.

You have several beverage options, including juice, and these are important because it is critical to keep yourself hydrated while fasting.

Sleep Fasting

Most people already “fast” every day, while they sleep. Intermittent fasting can be as simple as extending that fast a little longer. By skipping breakfast you eat your first meal at noon and your last meal at 8 pm.

Juice at noon

When you break your fast around noon, you can use a juice at that time, to aid in hunger and give you an energy boost, so that you can fast a couple of hours longer. That juice will start your digestive system and the fiber from the juice is still just minimal. There is no significant calories intake.

Then you’re technically fasting for 16 hours every day, and restricting your eating to an 8-hour eating window. This is the most popular form of intermittent fasting.

Choose your fasting

There are many other forms of fasting. You chose the fasting method that suits your life style. No fasting attempt should be more than a few days at a time. Aim for three days in a week to see how you cope with the undertaking. If you are flexible you can get to have diner with family and fast the following day.

Calorie loss

For example. If your average food intake is 2000 calories per day for 7 days that’s 14000 calories. If we take 3 days at 2000 each day, or 6000 calories off our weekly intake, our weekly intake becomes 8000 calories. That is a significant drop in calories.

That does not mean you can go out and make up for the calories not consumed by eating extra. Maintaining good eating habits is essential for any benefit you are trying to achieve.

Fasting is not that bad

Many people report feeling better and having more energy during a fast. That is because your body has had time to ‘clean’ and remove waste. We normally just keep filling up the stomach and hardly ever give it time to do some house cleaning. Some foods need 24 hours to digest and be removed.

No food

No food is allowed during the fasting period, but you can drink water, coffee, tea and other non-caloric beverages. This includes vegetable juice.

Some forms of intermittent fasting allow small amounts of low-calorie foods during the fasting period.

Should I take supplements

Taking supplements is generally allowed while fasting, as long as there are no calories in them.

Despite what it might sound like, intermittent fasting is not about starving yourself. It’s more about when you eat, and not how much you eat.

Juicing it up

Drinking plain water can get boring, so vary your liquid consumption with other healthy choices such as apple juice, natural fruit and vegetable juice.

Natural apple juice is a far better choice, because it contains a bit of fiber along with vitamin C. Vegetable juice provide pure nutrition without the chemical additives you are trying to avoid.

You can make a simple apple juice using 3 apples. Add a carrot and celery stick for additional nutrition. Include a tomato with a little pepper every other day in the juice to spice it up and keep it less monotonous.

Fasting for weight loss

If you are fasting for weight loss, keep in mind that your initial loss will be mostly water.

The best way to maintain any weight loss is to eat a diet high in leafy green vegetables, fruits, rice, lean proteins and healthy fats. Exercise will always be the balance to any weight loss plan.

Keep it simple to succeed

If you are going fasting to lose weight, keep it simple and do not over do it. Three days is more than enough to set you right. If you can try it every week, just 3 days each week. Find a pace that works for you. Allow your body to become accustom to the change in diet.

The ultimate success is to be able to balance your eating habits every day over the week. Not always that simple if you are out and about socializing or partying, or just plain unorganized with your eating habits.
